About The Dolores Fund

The Dolores Fund is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization committed to helping single-parent families who are in a current homeless or unstable living situation. We are a group of volunteers who have committed to give our time, talents, and treasure to the cause of helping these families become self-sufficient. We desire that every possible dollar be spent to empower those experiencing homelessness to become self-sufficient. While we understand that government assistance is often needed to begin a family’s journey, it is our hope that every family we serve will obtain self-sufficiency where government assistance is no longer desired or needed.

Our work with an adopted family includes not only a formal assessment of the family’s current situation but many informal conversations so that we can get to know the family personally. Every situation is unique and our approach must be equally unique to that family. Our adoption of a family does not end when we move the family into their new home. We continue to work with the family to connect them with community resources to help in the following areas:

  • Address immediate cash needs

  • Food/clothing

  • Job placement

  • Child care

  • Transportation

  • Health care

  • Short-term government assistance

  • Family budgeting

  • Establish accountability partnerships

A member of The Dolores Fund serves the family as their accountability partner to help the family stay on track towards their goal of self-sufficiency. We require that each family own their process, but we are there to help.

Currently, we serve families in Wayne and Washtenaw Counties of Southeast Michigan.
