LaToja’s Story

latoja-story.jpg

LaToja is the proud mother of three beautiful daughters: London, Madison, and Brooklyn. London is a terrific basketball player and hopes to play basketball in college. Madison loves to do nails and dreams of someday opening her own nail salon. Brooklyn is a super smart young girl and says she is going to Harvard someday. We have no doubt she is capable of that!

In 2018 and 2019, LaToja encountered significant challenges that were outside of her control and, as a result, this hard working woman lost her job. A few months after losing her job, she and her family lost their home. For 15 months, LaToja and her family were homeless. They had no choice but to rely on the gracious help from extended family, which also meant often splitting up and finding any couch or floor space that might be available.

Through The Dolores Fund, LaToja’s family was able to secure their own townhome in Detroit, Michigan. The Dolores Fund also outfitted their new family home with furniture and office equipment to help the family create a home office that LaToja can use for remote work opportunities and the children can use to complete their homework. The Dolores Fund continues to provide LaToja with coaching to support her employment efforts and family budgeting, all of which will help her family build a solid financial framework. After nearly two years of being unemployed, LaToja is excited to now have a great job as she and her family continue to make significant progress towards their goal of becoming financially self-sufficient once again!

To this day, The Dolores Fund continues to work with LaToja and her family towards their goal of achieving and maintaining financial self-sufficiency.

Dolores Fund volunteers move LaToja’s family into their new home.
